About Texas Retrievers
-or-
How this site began

The idea for Texas Retrievers began simultaneously among several different groups of people in the early to mid 1990's. Around 1995, a meeting was held outside Austin consisting of representatives from over a dozen retriever clubs in the state. There was overwelming support for the organization of a state-wide consortium of clubs, but the specifics of just what such an organization could, or should, entail was not firmly set. One of the generally agreed upon goals was a single point of information that people and clubs could use for general information on working retrievers in Texas. This website began out of that effort.

When it became clear that the Texas Retriever Club itself would not materialize, I took it upon myself to provide the information on a website on my own. Given that I was at that time already the webmaster for the Bryan-College Station Retriever Club, I merely added the information to my club's site. The first two phases of information for the Texas Retrievers was a Calendar of Events and a basic List of all Retriever Clubs located in the state. Once word of these information sources became widespred, the use of the BCSRC website grew by large bounds. To this day, these are still the most important, and most utilized, portions of this site.

After a time, it became obvious that non-BCSRC information needed a home of its own. Thus, in early 2001, I purchased the domain name under which this site now resides and migrated the non-club specific information out of the club site.
